Drum Conveyor Technology

Home / Material Handling / Drum Conveyor Technology

Liquid, solid, and powdered goods intended for inter-industry trade are often packed in drums in medium quantities (large quantities in IBCs, small quantities in hobbocks and canisters).

Depending on the application and industry, drums are used in a wide variety of sizes, materials, and shapes. The most common drums are cylindrical in shape and are particularly well-suited for automated in-plant handling (moving, staging/buffering, storing, filling, and emptying).

Because of our proximity to the Port of Hamburg , a large portion of the barrel conveyor systems we have supplied to date are directly related to the oil industry.

There, the typical barrel (approx. 209 l) made of painted sheet steel with a bunghole is generally used.

For the safe temporary storage of low-level radioactive parts and solids from nuclear power plants, or the storage of high-viscosity substances from the chemical industry, our conveyor systems use similar drums with removable or weldable lids. For 220-liter HDPE drums with ring-spring lids, we offer conveyor systems .

Our drum handling systems are designed as standard for drums weighing up to 250 kg (optionally up to 1,100 kg). For special environmental conditions such as “outdoors,” “in a cold storage facility,” or “in an explosion-hazard area,” we’d be happy to develop the right solution for you.

The operator's environment often presents additional challenges, which we address by procuring and conceptually integrating components such as the following:

Personal Protection:

Machine safety fence, high-speed door, safety light curtain

Fire Safety:

Fire door, conveyor system enclosure, emergency power supply (BEV)

Climate Protection:

Strip curtain, swing door, insulated door, high-speed door, sectional door

Barrel Handling:

Overhead or column-mounted jib crane, balancer, vacuum lifter, drum gripper

For specific environmental conditions such as “outdoors,” “in a cold storage facility,” or “in a hazardous area,” we’d be happy to develop the right solution for you.

The individual needs of the future operator of our drum conveyor systems form the basis of our designs. Many of our standard components are used in combination with modified or custom-made elements. We can professionally address all challenges in in-plant drum logistics using the following components:
