Project Description: Hamburg-Bahrenfeld Logistics Center

As part of the expansion of the Hamburg-Bahrenfeld site, a new logistics complex with a high-bay warehouse was built. SCHÖNAU supplied and installed a multifunctional freight elevator that connects the existing multi-story administrative building to the warehouse area. The elevator is used to transport:

  • Palletized goods
  • Furniture and Machinery
  • as well as, on occasion, entire passenger cars

This makes it the ideal solution for a flexible and future-proof material flow.

Special Features and Technical Implementation:

The type-approved freight elevator with a passenger function was installed inside the building within a freestanding, self-supporting shaft structure. Special attention was paid to fire safety, minimizing the pit depth, and ensuring optimal integration into the planned hall structure.

Design Features:

  • Cab dimensions (WxLxH): 3.0 m × 5.5 m × 2.5 m
Lift height: 10.15 m with 3 stops on opposite sides
  • Load capacity: 4,000 kg
  • Hoist: Inverter-controlled chain hoist with catch-up control
  • Speed: 0.15 m/s
  • Doors: Double-leaf, manually operated swing doors with a viewing window
  • Shaft pit: Only 225 mm deep—ideal for limited foundation depth

Construction & Fire Safety:

  • Shaft scaffolding: Freestanding, made of hollow steel sections with verifiable structural integrity
  • Cladding: ISO panels on all sides with painted edge protection profiles
  • Connections: Steel platforms connect the floors; openings in the fire wall are secured with standard fire-rated doors
  • Cabin consoles: Through-loader design for flexible loading and unloading

Conclusion

With the project at Matthies, SCHÖNAU once again demonstrates how sophisticated technology and flexible planning go hand in hand. The elevator meets the highest standards for load capacity, fire safety, and functionality—and contributes significantly to the efficiency of the new logistics center.
