Picking is carried out in a wide variety of ways. When goods are brought to the worker, material handling systems come into play!
Picking—that is, the process of selecting specific sub-sets (items) of various types from a given product range based on a created order—requires a high degree of flexibility in internal logistics to meet constantly changing demands.
Picking Methods
Customer orders usually consist of several line items. In practice, a variety of picking methods are used to process these customer orders smoothly and without errors. Three basic methods and their variations are described below. They differ in terms of their information and material flows, as well as their organization.
- Order-based, batch picking
- Order-driven, parallel picking
- Batch-oriented, parallel picking
Basic Picking Methods
In addition, there are two basic types of order picking:
- Goods to the Man
- Man to Goods
The “goods-to-person” order-picking method is almost exclusively used in material handling applications. There are a wide variety of transport options available here. In addition to the ability to transport goods to and from pallet conveyor systems—for example, from a high-bay warehouse or to the shipping department—we use our proven standard components such as:
- Roller Conveyor
- Belt Conveyor
- Belt Conveyor
- Accumulation Roller Conveyor
- Roller Conveyors
- Elevators
- Identification Card
